Can these 3 principles really help you get hired for offshore drilling employment? Yes, of course they can. After all, a is really a form of sales letter. While salesmen may not know anything about offshore drilling employment, good salesmen do know how to sell themselves and their companies' products. So, what are these 3 principles?
1) Benefit-Feature Principle. Applied to your cover letter, this simply means that you write down each job scope and requirement from the job posting, then point out your previous relevant experience. Basically, this principle answers the question which every employer has: "What can this candidate do for me?" On a more advanced level, if you already have a lot of experience, you should also have a good idea of what is behind the job scope and requirements mentioned in the job posting. In this case, you should go beyond the scope which was posted for the job.
2) USP Principle. USP is short for Unique Selling Point. You need to show what makes you stand out from your competitors for this position. What extra strength do you have to offer your employer? For example, let us say that you are an electrician in your previous jobs. However, you are also a qualified mechanic and sometimes assisted the regular mechanics in their duties. Tell your prospective employer that. You do not need to brag and make a big deal out of it, but make sure your prospective employer knows about these little extras by writing them in your cover letter.
3) Offer Principle. What are you offering your new boss? Can you start work immediately? Do you already have all the required certifications for work on an offshore oil rig? Are all of your required immunizations up-to-date? Are all your necessary work permits and visas complete? This is where successful research on the oil company really pays off. For example, let us say that the job is for a rig operating off the shore of Alberta. If you have the required First Aid certification for Alberta, then say so in your cover letter.
Following these 3 principles used by top salesmen will help you get hired for offshore drilling employment. Used correctly in your cover letter, these principles will sell you to your prospective employer.
