Finding a good nights sleep while youre pregnant can be nearly impossible. Its even worse if you dont have a comfortable and supportive mattress to start with. Toss out the old sagging hand-me-down you inherited long ago.


Invest in something that will not only offer a good nights sleep, but will support your growing belly and aching back. You may think that alternative sleeping solutions are the answer but they have serious drawbacks while youre pregnant. Water and air mattresses are great for single people and people who can sleep just about anywhere. They are not good for women who are gradually getting bigger with pregnancy. Their non-supportive nature leads to aches and pains that will make it utterly impossible to sleep through.

Water-beds are not a good choice while pregnant. They dont offer enough support and can be dangerous to get out of while pregnant. And once your little one arrives, the risk of infant suffocation is extremely high with a water filled mattress. Stick to spring mattresses that can lift and distribute your weight in an effective manner. Air mattresses are not a good sleeping solution unless in an emergency. While air does offer support, other factors can affect your sleep. Having no box spring or frame means air mattresses lie low on the ground. This makes those numerous bathroom trips throughout the night even more aggravating as youll have to pull your tired and swollen body almost completely off the floor. When even getting out of a chair is difficult during pregnancy, the work involved with getting out of bed would seem impossible. Find a style that fits you. Get a firm yet comfortable mattress set that you can live with. Try them out when you are in the store. Dont just push on them, lay on them. This is the only way to tell if it meets your needs. The more you lie down on, the better youll be able to choose the one for you.

There are many different types of mattresses out there. Each offers a different sleep experience. Pillow tops are nice because they offer a soft top layer with a strong supportive core. They are dangerous with an infant because of the plush top, so never let an infant sleep or play on it. A firm spacious sized mattress will most likely be the best for you. Just make sure that you and your mate agree on the firmness before you buy it. Orthapedic mattresses can also be very good when pregnant. And in the worst case scenario, you can buy two twin beds and put them on a queen sized box spring. This way you have the firmness you want, and he can have the softer side if thats what he prefers.
