Please note:

1. Within Sydney CBD charges are: $70 for first hour and meter charges every following next hour

2. Metropolitan Sydney charges: standard meter charges starts from the beginning up to pick up point and than the following standard or maxi rate (metered maxi rate is 50% extra for 5 or more passengers) charges follow.

Maxi Taxi Rates Explained

Despite the myth going around about more expensive maxi taxis they are actually less expensive. Here is an example:

You need a taxi for say 7 people. Before maxi taxis came into the Sydney's scene you have had to hire two taxis: one for 4 and another one for 3 people. The total fare was $35. The total pay was $70. Oouhhh! It could be much more with all the double tolls because of 2 taxis!

Maxi taxi takes all of the 7 passengers for a total charge of 1.5 times of standard fare and only single tolls charge. Is this less expensive or what?

Sure it is - so no more stupid ideas about more expensive Maxi Taxis please!!!!

Maxi Taxi is not allowed by law to charge more than standard fare for up to 4 passengers and it starts up at $3.40 (standard flag fall). Maxi fare rate applies to 5 and more passengers and its flag fall starts up at $5.10. Be aware of some unscrupulous cabbies who will try to take advantage of you! Stay informed! Always check the flag fall first!

Flag fall = starting up $$$ meter charges.
